The North Hudson Sewer Authority recently closed on a $20 million loan with the NJ Water Bank to increase the wet weather capacity of the River Road Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project proposes a capacity increase from 20 to 35 million gallons per day (MGD) by implementing a side-stream high-rate treatment and various plant upgrades. Key components of the project include the installation of a new mechanical bar screen, modifications to plant flow and piping to divert 15 MGD of flow directly to the high-rate treatment units. In addition, the chlorine contact tank will be upgraded to a higher capacity disinfection system. This project is a critical element of the NHSA's long-term control plan to upgrade CSO conditions.
