OCEAN TOWNSHIP SA INTERLAKEN PUMP STATION RECONSTRUCTION

The Ocean Township Sewerage Authority (OTSA) recently completed resilience improvements to one of its pump stations that are being funded with approximately $3.6 million in loans from the NJ Water Bank, a joint low-rate funding program of the DEP and the NJ I-Bank. Including interest cost savings, total savings for this project is estimated to be $777,086 over the 30-year term of the loan or 21% of the total project cost. In addition, this project created an estimated 43 direct construction jobs. 

The project consisted of the reconstruction of the Interlaken Pump Station and raising the building to mitigate the impact of future flooding. OTSA upgraded the pump station to handle additional effluent flows, primarily during storm events. The project will reduce the potential for overflow during and after heavy rains and the possibility of sewage backup into nearby Deal Lake. Additionally, the pump station, which was impacted by Superstorm Sandy, was modified to improve resiliency. 

John Napolitani, Sr., Mayor of Ocean Township, stressed the need for the project. "We're dedicated to the prevention of flooding for our residents and businesses, and possible sewage backup into Deal Lake. We appreciate the maintenance implemented on our behalf and the strategic financing behind it. This project was easily funded while creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and saving our ratepayers money over time. Ultimately this project will also benefit the economy and the water quality of the community."

This project was designed by Colliers Engineering, and Electrical Work was performed by De Maio Electric Company.
