BAYSHORE RSA POWER RESILIENCY

Bayshore Regional Sewer Authority ("BRSA") recently closed on a $31,000,000 loan with the NJ Water Bank to construct a new Power Resiliency Generator System to maintain a continuous power supply to the Monmouth County Bayshore Outfall Authority ("MCBOA") Pump Station for a minimum of seven consecutive days, the time period that utility power was down as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Components proposed for the project include natural gas fired generators enclosed in a building elevated above the 500-year flood plain including wave action. Paralleling switchgear is also proposed for automatic synchronized switchover from JCP&L supplied power to a portable power supply called gensets.

This project will enable the BRSA and MCBOA to safely treat and dispose of wastewater during periods of prolonged utility power outage during storm events. The prevention of untreated sewage spilling into wetlands areas and Raritan Bay will play a critical role in protecting water quality.
