Hopewell Township recently closed on a $122,571 loan with the NJ Water Bank to repair deteriorated sewers. The Hopewell Township Sewer Department operates and maintains two small public sanitary sewer conveyance systems that serve the Brandon Farms and Princeton Farms developments. Portions of both collection systems are deteriorated and subject to inflow and infiltration (I&I), resulting in sewage leaking to the environment and groundwater and stormwater infiltrating the system. It has come to the attention of the DEP that I&I has resulted in a wet well overflow at the Princeton Farms location. The township plans to repair the deteriorated sewers to convey wastewater safely to each respective regional wastewater treatment facility. A significant part of the planning efforts includes the preparation of an Asset Management Plan for which the township is seeking principal forgiveness.
