Newton Township recently closed on a $1,500,081 loan with the NJ Water Bank to upgrade its water treatment plant including the chemical room, SCADA, and the Programmable Logic Controller ("PLC") which monitors and controls pumps, motors, valves, and other equipment at the plant. The main PLC, essential for supplying water to Newton, needs an upgrade as it has been in use since the plant's construction in 2004. Replacing the 2006 SCADA and computer interface will improve reliability and versatility. The chemical room rehab will include new chemical systems and repairs to corroded surfaces. The upgraded PLC will enhance efficiency, optimize pump operation, and reduce energy use.
