The Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties (JMEUC) recently closed on 2 loans with the NJ Water Bank to reduce impacts caused by natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy and to avoid loss of wastewater service. The loans were closed by the municipalities listed below with the respective loan amounts. The project will promote resiliency and minimize potential service interruptions. The JMEUC proposes to protect public health and natural resources by minimizing the release of untreated sewage into the environment.
The specifics of the project includes the construction of a new pumping station employing five effluent pumps and motors. Ancillary improvements include variable frequency drives, electrical upgrades including a SCADA system, piping, valves, a knife gate, and an HVAC system. Phase 2 will rehabilitate the co-generation facility including two new generator sets with ancillary heat exchanges, mechanical piping, electrical upgrades, and generator maintenance platforms. The generators will be used to supply emergency power to the effluent and storm water pumping stations as well as the biosolids facility.
