The Middlesex County Utilities Authority (MCUA) recently closed on a $165 million loan from the NJ Water Bank to build a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production facility at the Edward J. Patton Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sayreville, New Jersey. The facility will convert landfill and digester gas into RNG, processing about 7,200 Standard Cubic Feet per Minute (SCFM) of biogas. This includes 4,200–6,000 SCFM of landfill gas from the MCUA's East Brunswick landfill and 800–1,200 SCFM of digester gas from a potential future Advanced Anaerobic Digestion facility. The project will provide clean, affordable energy, help lower energy costs, and support plantwide improvements while maintaining water quality permit requirements.
