RIDGEWOOD VILLAGE WATER TREATMENT CENTRALIZATION FOR PFAS REMOVAL

Ridgewood Village recently closed on a $10,762,338 loan with the NJ Water Bank to address excessive levels of PFAS, commonly used in a wide range of industrial processes, and found in many consumer products. PFAS can penetrate the water supply and affect drinking water quality. This project will provide treatment needed for new regulations pertaining to PFAS. Ridgewood Water tested the water and delivery system to the four communities it serves: the Village of Ridgewood, Wycoff Township and the Boroughs of Glen Rock and Midland Park. It was determined that the levels of PFAs exceed the new standards established by the NJ DEP, requiring new treatment plants to remediate most of its 52 wells and 31 points of entry into the water system. The strategy to comply with the new standards includes the centralization of treatment to 12 new plants through Granular Activated Carbon or GAC. This contract is for the Prospect Treatment Facility, one of the 12 new plants.
