Stony Brook RSA recently closed on a $19,261,427 loan with the New Jersey Water Bank for River Road Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements. The proposed project involves replacing the existing dual-media effluent filtration system, many components of which are 39 years old and in need of significant rehabilitation. Replacing the aging effluent filters will ensure reliable performance of the effluent filtration process which is critical for water quality protection.
The chlorine-based disinfection system will be replaced with a new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system to meet new, more stringent effluent limitations for Chlorodibromomethane (CDBM) and Bromodichloromethane (BDCM). Modifications to the existing chlorine contact tanks, de-chlorination tanks, and reaeration tanks will be completed to incorporate the new UV disinfection system within and on top of the existing tanks. The UV system will enable compliance with new NJPDES permit effluent limits for CDBM and BDCM.
