The City of Elizabeth closed today on a $5,320,111 construction loan with the NJ Water Bank to rehabilitate and upgrade the South Street Pump Station. Elizabeth City is prone to localized flooding in the areas of 4th Avenue, South Street and South Spring Street due to inadequate capacity within the existing combined sewer overflow (CSO) system and the inability to operate the South Street Pump Station. The project includes the rehabilitation and upgrades to the South Street Pump Station, including new pumps, electrical systems & controls, and a backup generator; repairs and lining of the existing combined sewer on Fourth Avenue and connecting streets; installation of separate storm sewers and inlets; and ponding area restoration.
