The Township of East Greenwich recently closed on a $6.06M loan from the NJ Water Bank to install an Activated Carbon Filtration system, addressing PFNA contamination in the public water supply. PFNA, a persistent PFAS chemical found in industrial processes and consumer products, contaminates soil, water, and air, posing risks to drinking water quality. The project qualifies for $1M in Principal Forgiveness, reducing the loan balance to $5.06M.
The project site, a 100x100 ft area, includes a well, well house, and fencing. Improvements include two activated carbon filters, a filtration building, a backwash tank connected to the sewer system, and site upgrades. Additional enhancements include new Variable Frequency Drive ("VFD") controls for the well pump, a VFD-compatible motor, and a generator replacement. VFD is a device used to control the speed and torque of an electric motor by varying the frequency and voltage of its power supply.
